Nearly three years ago my grandma left this earthly life. Her passing signified so many life events for me but that is a conversation for another day.
In the days and weeks after her passing I had so many people who reached out to me and touched my soul.
As the quote above from Maya Angelou says, we forget about what people say and do but not how they make us feel. I for one could not agree more.
I don’t think there was ever such a time in my life that I felt so much love. My family, friends, neighbors and strangers carried me. They were a light when I felt succumbed by darkness.
When we are filled with light it inevitably shines to others and they can feel it. Those who carried and lifted my spirits were filled with light. Not just light of this world but light from my Heavenly Father and Angels. They knew what to say and do to comfort my broken heart.
In the book Heaven Is Here from Stephanie Nielson she writes about her incredible story of hope, triumph, and everyday joy. She was the victim of a plane crash where she suffered severe burns.
During her stay in the hospital she became so anxious and fearful. Her family offered to stay the nights with her to ease her burdens. They organized what she referred to as “the babysitting e-mail.” I had to laugh at this statement. It was all too familiar for my own life.
In those moments of despair she had her loving siblings by her side to comfort and help. She said, “They made me laugh and cheered me up when no one could. They prayed for me and protected me, and above all, surrounded me with the love that enabled me to heal.”
No matter what situations we are in or the people who surround us. We can make an impact just by being who we are. It is my encouragement this week that we can all strive to make others feel loved, important, and valued.
With love,
Talesha
