Motivation Monday: Week 2

As women we tend to lean towards undervaluing ourselves. This can be in the form of negative self talk and comparison.  It is so easy to look at someone else and think their talents are more than yours or to look in the mirror and see the wrinkles, scars and aging.

I am here to tell you, you are more than your imperfections! God made you in his image, he does not make mistakes.

I am reminded of the children’s story, You Are Special  By Max Lucado. In the story Punchinello is a wood boy who lives with other wooden people. The wooden people were created by a wood carver named Eli. They gave star or dot stickers to each other based on their behaviors. Stars symbolized good and dots bad.

Punchinello had so many dots he eventually stopped going outside.

He then met a fellow wooden girl who had no dots or stars and he wanted to know how he could be the same as her. She told him to go see the wood carver, Eli.

Punchinello then goes and asks Eli why he matters. Eli’s reply is, “Because you’re mine. That’s why you matter to me.”

How simple a phrase. We matter because we are HIS. Punchinello continues to ask why the stickers don’t stick to Lucia and Eli replied with, “Because she has decided that what I think is more important than what they think.”

I can promise you that when we decide to put more effort into what our Heavenly Father and Savior think of us, all the other “things” in life don’t seem to hold much weight.

Eli left Punchinello with one last piece of advice as he left his home. “Remember, you are special because I made you. And I don’t make mistakes.”

I leave you with the same advice. You are special and you have so much power with the gifts and talents God gave you! Be you and be proud of the you that you are.

My challenge for you this week is to write three positive things about yourself today and then read them out loud to yourself everyday. To add more power to your words do this while looking at yourself in the mirror.
