Gluten-free diets have become a fad recently. Many people choose to take gluten out of their diet, but others don’t have the choice. When people with gluten intolerances eat gluten they have an allergic reaction.
My husband is one of those people. We learned of his intolerance after several years he had been struggling with eczema. His body can’t handle a lot of things most people don’t even think twice about. Dairy, gluten, eggs, coffee, sunflower seeds.
Gluten is a protein found in wheat. Many people who love pizza, cookies, pasta, bread, and muffins (to name a few) have to move to a healthier option. Have you ever tried gluten-free bread? It’s very dry and chewy. Most substitutes aren’t as tasty as their counterpart.
How do I know if I have an intolerance?
You may feel some of these symptoms. You’ll be surprised at how many you do feel daily.
*bloating
*diarrhea
*abdominal pain
*weakness
*fatigue
If you do feel any of these symptoms regularly, try cutting out gluten for a few weeks and see if you feel any improvements.
How is it treated?
Sadly, there is no cure. The only way to manage celiac or gluten intolerance is to maintain a gluten-free diet. Another option is to go to a doctor and receive a blood test. This test will be able to tell you a good meal plan to follow and if you’re allergic to anything else.
What are some side effects of a gluten allergy?
People who suffer from a gluten allergy have a higher risk of malnutrition. They also have a higher risk of developing gastrointestinal cancer.
How do I manage a gluten allergy?
Diet is key! Going to the grocery store is so hard when you’re on a gluten-free diet. Reading every ingredient list gets frustrating.
*Avoid anything with wheat
*Stay away from pies, cakes, anything baked
*Read all seasonings ingredients (they hide wheat)
*Eat a more balanced diet
Switching to a gluten-free diet is difficult but the benefits far outweigh the cons. You’re body will be thanking you in no time. Gluten-free written on packaging will soon become your best friend.
All my love,
