We all can look back on our childhood and remember how enforced bedtime was. I used to hate bedtime. Doing everything I could to avoid it. Fake sleeping until my parents left, then playing with toys all night. There were times I didn’t even sleep at all.
Bedtimes are enforced to keep kids on a schedule. The older we get, the more we tend to not stick to that routine.
Here is what you need to know of the importance of sticking to a consistent sleep schedule.
Your body’s internal clock plays a major roll in regulating your sleep vs awake cycle. Have you ever noticed that a few nights of going to bed later and sleeping in longer will take you out of that cycle?
As night falls, your body releases melatonin. Melatonin helps your body naturally fall asleep. Your sleep cycle is linked to the amount of light in your environment. Your internal clock helps you feel more awake in the daytime and tired at nighttime.
When your sleep schedule is inconsistent, you won’t feel your best. You may notice being extra tired, or even more susceptible to sickness.
How do you create a natural sleep cycle? Listen to your body! Your body knows when it’s tired and when it’s awake. If your alarm goes off in the morning and you’re awake, don’t hit snooze. This can trick your body into thinking it’s still tired and make it even harder for you to wake up.
Once you have figured out a good sleep schedule, stick to it! It won’t be easy at first, and you may even notice being tired during the day. However, your body needs time to adjust to this new sleep schedule. Within a few days, you should be good to go and the tiredness will pass.
Remove any lights when it’s time for bed. Seeing added lights will make it harder to fall asleep.
When you commit to a sleeping schedule your body will thank you later. In a few short days, you’ll be getting the sleep you’ve always deserved.
All my love,
