Home Remedies For Colds

It’s hard to know if the cold remedies we get will do the trick. When I first get sick I immediately take an Emergency packet with a large glass of water. Then, my mind starts to race as to what I should do/medicine to take to help kick my cold in the butt.

Being sick even if you are home in bed is never fun. The body aches, fever, nasal congestion, and chills make being sick miserable.

There are plenty of home remedies to help relieve those nasty symptoms and get you back to normal in no time.

Here are some common cold remedies and info on them;

Drink water! Staying hydrated will help your body from becoming dehydrated. Drink water with lemon, mint, or honey to help loosen congestion. Avoid any sugary drinks, as bacteria feed off of sugar and this will only prolonge our cold.

Sleep. I’m sure this one doesn’t come as a shock as sleeping is mostly all I want to do while I’m sick. Getting enough sleep helps your body heal quicker.

Nasal sprays for stuffiness. Any over the counter nasal spray should do the trick. I use a nasal spray 2-3x a day while on my more severe congested days. Using nasal sprays also helps me from getting a sinus infection.

Turn on a humidifier. Adding moisture to the air will also help ease congestion. Follow the directions on whatever humidifier you use and change the water out daily.

Sip on warm liquids. This is a cold remedy used in several other cultures. Sip on any warm liquid such as; tea, chicken soup or warm apple cider. Drinking warm liquids is soothing to a sore throat and can help increase mucus flow which in turn helps with congestion.

Soothe your sore throat. Try using cough drops with no added sugar. Sugar helps feed the bacteria and can make it prolonge your sickness. You can also gargle 1/4 tablespoon of saltwater.

It’s important to remember there are more severe sicknesses that have some of the same symptoms of the common cold. Some of those are sinus infections, bronchitis, strep throat, and asthma. If you are having a difficult time getting over a sickness get in contact with your doctor.

I hope you find these home remedies for colds helpful and the next time you’re sick you can fight it off faster.

All my love,

Talesha
