Answered Prayers

Prayers are answered, friends. Last night my husband prayed that we as a family would have opportunities to serve. And I didn’t expect the opportunity to come so fast or as powerful as it did.

On my way home from picking my son up from school, there was a man on the corner asking for gas. He waved at us as we drove past and Nathan was able to read his sign. As soon as he read it he said, “Mom! We need to get him gas. We can do that for him, mom.” I’m trying to think of the reasons I can’t. How it could potentially not be safe and thinking about how I could explain this to my son.

To which he said, “Mom, it’s the right thing to do and you know it is.” He was right. I did know, but I was scared. I’ve never done anything like this before. He talked to me the 5 minutes left of our drive about how important it was to help this man on the corner, each word out of his mouth was filled with conviction and love. He had me in tears when I came home and told my husband about it.

We loaded up our extra gas tank and headed back to the corner. My nerves but also love for this man asking for so little grew as we drove to help him. Nathan excitedly said from the backseat, “I got him some of my money to Mom, that will help right?”

He was so excited and filled with the spirit. He was grinning from ear to ear. The man we served today was so grateful and Nathan has been talking about him the last several hours.

I hope that it made a difference in his day, and today I’m so grateful for my son who knew exactly how our family could serve. Even though we were nervous and scared I’m left with a full, grateful heart tonight.
