Creating A Healthy Home

Home making has been a passion of mine the last few years. After getting married I hit a major rut in my life. Everything became exhausting to do and therefore, my husband took a lot of it over.

After getting out of that hard time, I realized how important it was for me to keep a clean and tidy home. I feel less stressed, and happier towards my family. It started out small, really. I didn’t go from 0-100 overnight.

At first I started with keeping up on dishes. Then emptying the garbage daily or when it needed taken out. Then laundry, sweeping, and mopping came in. As I slowly started getting one task under control, more could follow. This is the first year I’ve been able to keep up with all of it.

Coming home from work it was important to me that I walked into a clean home. It was very motivating to me to see my space clean. When you live in dirty, you live dirty and don’t have the motivation to clean. When you live clean, even the smallest spill matters and is taken care of right away.

But how can you really create a healthy home?

Step 1: Create a space you want friends in. When having friends over do you hurry and clean too? Well, I’m in the same boat. Having a home that we’re happy to invite those we love over helps boost the energy. Your home becomes a happy, inviting place where people come together. That positive energy will stay long after the friend leaves.

Step 2: Let in as much sunlight as possible. I’m a sucker for windows and sunlight. Not only will it positively affect your energy bill, but also your mood. Natural light causes fewer headaches and helps me feel more motivated throughout the day.

Step 3: Keep it comfortable. My husband loves it when the house is colder, and I love it warm. Getting it just right will help you be more comfortable and cozy. I’m sure we all know what it feels like to walk into someone’s home who doesn’t know AC exists in mid-summer.

Step 4: Get social! Start inviting friends over and have a good time. It’s important that your home gives you time to be social, and times to be relaxed. I love having loved ones over to celebrate holidays, random weekends, and girls’ nights.

Step 5: Get rid of clutter. I recommend watching Hoarders on Netflix before you start de-cluttering. That will really help get you into the mood. Clutter takes up a lot of space in our house and in our minds. Looking around and seeing things that I don’t love, makes me stressed out. Getting rid of it, you’ll be able to focus your attention on more important things.

Step 6: Light that candle! When my home smells good, I feel good. Something about it, makes me feel happier and more productive. Make it fun and have your kids pick out the smell, and then enjoy it all together during dinner, or a family night. I love anything orange and vanilla.

Step 7: Add plants! I love greenery and although it’s hard for me to keep things alive, I also love the challenge. Greenery helps clean out the air in your home and boost your mood. I recommend at least one plant per room. It’ll add some life in.

Step 8: Last, but not least, make your bed! I can’t tell you how hard it’s been for me to make this a habit in my morning. Making your bed will help start your day off right. Seeing your bed made helps start you off for a productive day.

Keeping a healthy, happy home is worth all the headaches and stress along the way. Walking inside after coming from work and seeing a tidy home is worth it all.

You’ll notice how much happier you are without the unnecessary weight on your shoulders and how much you love your space. When it’s clean, and comfortable, you can get more done.

I noticed by making my bed daily and staying ahead of daily chores that I’m happier. I feel more productive and my space doesn’t stress me out. Find what’s motivating to you and keep trying. Remember, you can’t go from 0-100 overnight.

All my love,

Talesha
