I have been living my dream for the past 4 years. I have also found that raising kids and owning a small business takes a lot of work. A lot of sleepless nights, a lot of prayers and a lot of mentoring.
A lot of work that sometimes puts your grocery shopping and house cleaning on the backburner. You cannot plan the bumps in the road, or when they will happen. You cannot guess how long it will take you to get from point A to point B. It’s a crazy ride that you have to just, ride.
I am extremely grateful for the blessings that have come from owning my own business and being able to help others. Getting text messages from clients I’ve helped make any bad experience and bump in the road, worth it.
I have two amazing kids. Nathan, the oldest who is 7 years old and full of determination. Then, my youngest C.C who is 6 and full of spunk. On top of all the responsibilities of being a wife and mom, I run my own business. I empower women to find joy and healing.
Since my business took off, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. business growth happens in ways that some days I would rather avoid. Rock bottoms aren’t fun for anyone but especially business owners. However, rock bottoms force growth that will push your business forward.
At times moments pass me and then return when I least expect it. There have been countless times I didn’t take business opportunities because when I prayed about it, it felt wrong. You have to learn to trust that gut feeling, even if you don’t always understand why.
Some nights I have cried and prayed hard wondering what my next step should be. The sadness never lasts though and the joy returns. Finding peace with being a business owner and being an involved mom hasn’t always been easy. I’m still figuring it out.
I have to make a list of priorities during the day so I don’t get overwhelmed with it all. While my kids are in school, I dedicate time to my business and when they return I put my phone down and be involved with homework and play.
I want my kids to know that I love them and that I am present every day in their lives. Every homework assignment, every soccer game, and every dance performance.
In order to make my family a priority, I’ve had to say no to other business matters. No matter how hard it is to juggle everything, I like to think I’m doing a good job and maybe figuring it all out.
I find inspiration from amazing mom bosses around me. They inspire me, lift me, answer questions and listen to my fears. To all you business owners and mom bosses, I know the struggle of reaching a plateau.
I know how scary making changes is. I know that at times you have thought about closing this business chapter in your life. I know you have questioned yourself and how much you really can handle.
If I can give you any advice it is to never give up. Keep pushing down those walls. Keep working even if it’s not as much as you would like. It’s okay to not always have the road mapped out or the destination in mind. You will get there.
The experiences you’re facing now are building your business to exactly where it needs to be in the future. It may not feel like it now but in a year from now, your business will be in a completely different place than it is now.
Owning a business is worth all the highs and lows that will come.
All my love for you on this journey,
Talesha
