Not only does clutter affect the cleanliness of your environment, but it also affects your mind. Studies show that people with messy homes are more fatigued, depressed and have higher levels of the hormone that causes stress. Compared to individuals who say their home is relaxing and restful.
What is clutter and why do we let it overrun us sometimes? At its core, clutter is procrastination. It’s thinking it’s fine to do it later, but later never comes. If your car or office is cluttered you are likely procrastinating other things as well. By overloading your senses, messy environments cause to shut you down instead of inspiring you to keep going.
Your mind: Clutter affects your physical and mental health. It can leave you feeling, anxiety stressed and even depressed. Eating the wrong foods can have a negative impact on your brain as well. Try eating more greens, protein, and healthy fats. Feeding your body the healthy food it needs will give you more energy, and help you feel happier. Hopefully, all of this will help you be motivated to get de-cluttered.
Focus: In a messy environment all you can focus on is the mess. Your productivity is gone in the snap of a finger. Clear up the clutter and you will be productive in your work and home life.
Causes weight gain: Clutter increases your stress hormone which can cause weight gain. It also creates bad habits which can transfer to weight gain as well. Studies show a tie between overconsumption of stuff, and overconsumption of food.
“When there is clutter in your home there is clutter in you!” –Trisha Morris I couldn’t agree more with this statement and I hope you find it as powerful as I do. The best way to help stop your clutter is at the store. If you are in the store really think about if you really need the item, because once it’s in the home, you get attached.
I love having a two-way conversation, so feel free to leave any comments or tips about clutter you’ve learned.
