10 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Do you remember those “get to know you” games you’d play in school? Everyone seemed to hate them, meanwhile, I loved every second! I loved learning about my peers, their interests, hobbies, dreams, and funny quirks.

No matter how well you think you know somebody, you can always learn new things about them, and I love that. Here are 10 things you probably don’t know about me.

1: I love to dance! I can’t remember a time where I didn’t dance. My mom put me in dance as a young girl and it set my soul on fire. Eventually, when I got to high school, I joined the dance team.

Waking up early in the morning for practice was worth every second. I love how freeing dance is. Dancing gave me an outlet to express myself when words couldn’t. I love jazz, ballet, tap and lyrical. I still love going to dance competitions and sit there watching in awe of the beauty.

2: Hiking is not my favorite thing ever. Bear, is that you making all the noise in the brush I can’t see? What’s up, mountain lion? Are you hungry? I hear you 10 thousand rattlesnakes, but please don’t strike. I’m nice, I promise.

As you can see, I have a tiny bit of anxiety about what I can’t control while hiking. That’s not all though. I huff and I puff the whole way up. Just to realize that going down is the hardest part. By the time you get to the top, your legs are jello and now on the way down, you pray they don’t give out. I would much rather drive to a pretty spot in the mountains, set up camp and make smores. How about you?

3: Wet and dry should never mix. I can’t think of a more horrible thing than just getting done with washing dishes and only seeing paper towels to dry your hands off with. That wet, soggy, fall apart feeling sends shivers up my spine.

If you have a wet paper towel or anything else papery and wet, keep it away from me. I’ll stick to my hand towels.

4: I love southern food. After graduating high school I decided to get out of Utah and head to North Carolina to live with my aunt and uncle. Being introduced to authentic southern food was amazing. All the hush puppies, all the time.

Nobody makes food quite like the south. With all the grease, bar-b-que sauce, cornbread, and sweet potatoes, it’s no wonder people never leave.

5: Whatever you do, don’t bring out the games. No, but seriously I can’t think of a faster way to bring out anxiety for me. My hands and brain don’t work as fast as some of these games do. Pretty soon I’m spilling cards all over the place and losing, making a fool of myself. Instead of games let’s all relax by a fire and talk about funny experiences.

6: Take me on a road trip! Let’s sell everything we own and buy a motor home to see the world. Waking up every day seeing a new part of the world meeting new people, and seeing beautiful destinations… sign me up.

7: I love a good head massage. Paul gives the best head rubs and makes me melt every single time. My hair always ends up a frizzy, ratted mess after, but I never complain. Something about it that instantly eases my tension and puts me to sleep.

8: I’m always cold. You can find me cuddled up under a warm blanket or wearing a hoodie almost every day. Some days my fingers and toes never do warm-up. I can’t wait to have a fireplace in my forever home. Nothing sounds more relaxing than warming up by a fire and reading a good book. Which takes me to my next bullet.

9: I love books! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the Twilight series over the years. Reading a book takes me out of the stresses of my life and into someone else’s story. I love reading books that inspire me, push me to be a better human and show me that no dream is too big.

10: I love gardening. Gardening has been something my family has done for generations. Planting something like flowers or veggies and giving it a new life is peaceful. When springtime hits I’m able to see my flowers bloom. And in the fall, harvest my small garden of veggies.

Gardening grounds me. Heals me and energizes me. It’s a beautiful process that doesn’t always pay off immediately, but after some hard work, you can look out your window and see beautiful flowers.
